How OpenAntigens measures site use
OpenAntigens uses aggregate analytics to maintain the portal, decide what to improve, and report its reach to current and prospective funders.
What is measured
OpenAntigens uses Plausible Analytics to measure aggregate site use. Plausible processes page paths, approximate visitor counts, referring sites, approximate location, device, browser, and operating-system categories, and interactions with downloadable resources. OpenAntigens records named events when a visitor starts a browser-generated PDB or PNG download or successfully copies a TSV or FASTA export.
What is not collected
The integration does not use analytics cookies, advertising identifiers, logins, session replay, or cross-site tracking. Custom events are limited to a fixed allowlist of names. They do not send site-search terms, protein sequences, selected residues, clipboard contents, names, or email addresses to analytics. OpenAntigens does not use analytics to identify or profile individual visitors.
How measurements are used
We use these measurements to maintain OpenAntigens, decide what to improve, and report aggregate reach and use to current and prospective funders. Counts are approximate and may omit visitors who block analytics. For static TSV and JSON files, analytics record a link click. Custom PDB and PNG events record that the browser initiated an export, while copy events record that the browser reported a successful clipboard write. None of these events shows that the resource was used in an experiment.
Processing, access, and retention
Analytics are processed by Plausible Analytics under its data policy. Dashboard access is limited to authorized OpenAntigens administrators at the Institute for Protein Innovation. Only aggregate summaries are shared with funders; visitor-level data and breakdowns with fewer than five unique visitors are not shared.
Reviewed quarterly summaries are retained for historical reporting. Provider analytics are retained while OpenAntigens uses Plausible. OpenAntigens will delete the provider-held analytics if the site is removed from the service.
